RX 580 Mining Overview

The RX 580 was originally designed for gaming. Once miners got their hands on it back in the summer of 2017, the price skyrocketed. Since then it’s come back down, making it much more affordable for those looking to start mining.

Unfortunately, the RX 580 consumes more power than its predecessor, the RX 480. It also has the same hashrate. While this is disappointing, miners have found a way to optimize this GPU for mining by tweaking the BIOS. If you overclock/underpower the GPU it becomes far more profitable for mining.

RX 580 Hashrate: Ethereum

Let’s take a look at the RX 580’s Ethereum mining performance.

Stock Performance:

  • Hashrate: 24 MH/s
  • Power Consumption: 136 W

Overclocked Performance:

  • 29 MH/s
  • Power Consumption: 153 W

As you can see, the RX 580 seems pretty promising when modifications are made in the BIOS. While it’s not the best Ethereum miner, it’ll deliver pretty good performance for its price of just $350.

Should you use the RX 580 for Ethereum mining?

It’s a yes from me.

Although it shows sub-par performance at stock speeds, it can really turn into a money making machine with some tweaks in the BIOS. You can expect over $1,000 annually per card.

RX 580 Hashrate: Zcash

We’ve seen the RX 580’s’ Ethereum mining performance, but how does it fair mining Zcash? We’ll, let’s take a look:

Stock Performance:

  • 399 Sol/s
  • Power Consumption: 140 W

As for overclocked performance, we weren’t able to find any solid information. You can probably play around with your card in the BIOS and improve the mining performance a bit. As for now, we’re just going to focus on the stock speeds.

If you tweak some settings in the BIOS you can probably expect even better mining performance. Remember, it’s all about the power/hash ratio!
