1080 Series Mining Overview
The GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti were originally released strictly to deliver maximum gaming performance. However, once miners got their hands on them, that quickly changed. Many employ them as Ethereum and Zcash miners.
This review is going to illustrate the GTX 1080 hashrate, power consumption, and the overall mining performance of the GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti.

GTX 1080 Hashrate: Ethereum
The 1080 has issues with VRAM timing, which could be to blame for the lower hashrate. Most in the Ethereum mining community agree that this miner isn’t very profitable due to their higher price and power consumption.
GTX 1080 Ti
The GTX 1080 Ti (at stock speeds) has a hashrate of 32.04 MH/s. It draws 250 W, also at stock speeds.
When overclocked, it achieved up to 35 MH/s.
This still falls behind the Radeon R9 295X2, which boasts a hashrate of 46 MH/s.
Ethereum Mining Conclusion
Should you use the 1080 series for mining Ethereum?
The answer is probably not.
Due to high power consumption and cost, they’re not very profitable. However, if you already own one or more for gaming purposes, it might not be a bad idea to earn some extra money!

GTX 1080 Hashrate: Zcash
Considering the power consumption of the card, it’s still not as profitable.
What about the GTX 1080 Ti?
Well, it outputs 740 Sol/s at stock speeds; not bad. However, it’s still drawing 285 W from the wall. If you reduce the power target, you can drop the hashrate to about 600 Sol/s and the power consumption to around 150 W. This will drastically increase the power/hash ratio.
Zcash Mining Conclusion
If you underpower your card, the power/hash ratio improves, rendering Zcash mining slightly more profitable. However, you won’t see the profits that you’d see with other hardware. That being said, you should only mine Zcash with a 1080 card if you already own the card.

Notice the bolded X. The 1080 series use GDDRX memory. Although it delivers better gaming performance (what the cards are designed for), it is actually worse for mining. These cards boast excellent gaming performance, but they definitely weren’t designed to mine Ethereum. However, they can be used to mine other altcoins effectively.
Mining Other Altcoins

We recommend looking elsewhere for Ethereum or Zcash mining hardware. Unless you already own one, (in which case, go for it!) look elsewhere for mining hardware. However, other altcoins seem to be more profitable.
